Duo Arrested After One Flees Scene, Locked Himself In LI Restaurant Bathroom

Two Long Island men were arrested for alleged outstanding warrants and for one fleeing the scene and locking himself in a nearby restaurant bathroom.

Joshua Mordi, 23, of Valley Stream, and Deonte O'Connor, 23, of Uniondale, were arrested around 4:25 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19 in Elmont, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, officers observed Mordi commit multiple violations while driving a red 2001 Acura northbound on Meacham Avenue.

While conducting an investigation it was determined that Mordi had a suspended driver’s license as well as three outstanding warrants, police said.

During the investigation, O’Connor, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, police said.

He entered the Texas Chicken and Burgers restaurant and locked himself in the bathroom. Additional units were called to assist and after a short while, O’Connor exited the bathroom, police said.

As officers attempted to search defendant O’Connor for safety reasons, he became combative. After a brief struggle, officers were able to place O’Connor into custody. 

During the struggle, one officer was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment of facial lacerations and contusions.

Mordi was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions. 

O’Connor was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Resisting arrest
  • Obstructing governmental administration

Both will both be arraigned on Friday, Nov. 20, in Mineola.
